Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism palette, read on to find out if it’s worth it!
I never jumped on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance hype, and the Subculture one was slated all over social media, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Prism palette as it is admittedly quite similar to Subculture. I have the Anastasia Beverly Hills Aurora highlighter palette which is absolutely beautiful so I held out high hopes for their eyeshadows as I had never tried them before.
Prism features a range of 14 shades compiling matte’s and shimmers, metallics and duo-chrome, natural colours and ones for those who are a bit more daring (not quite sure what to do with the bright yellow yet), encased in a luxurious velvet case. It looks stunning, however I had to photograph the outside pretty quick because I reckon it will soon be covered in makeup and fingerprints.
I think all of the shades are absolutely beautiful, they are super pigmented and I did my base this morning before my eyes by accident but I found I didn’t need to wipe any fall out off my face. The shades all go on beautifully with the dual-ended brush that is included, which is really high quality, and I reckon if you wet them or used them as liner they would look absolutely insane. They’re so easy to blend all together. It’s totally versatile, you could go from day to night in an instant with this palette. I think the names are sick as well, ‘Obsidian’, ‘Osiris’, better than the usual coffee themed shade names. It seems to have more shimmery shades than any of its sister palettes.
I like how the palette shades are laid out randomly, rather than grouped together in ‘looks’ as I find it more inspiring and I am more likely to try using more shades rather than playing it safe this way. I think my favourite shades are definitely Lure, Eden, Throne and Dimension. I wouldn’t have thought that they’d work together, but somehow they look great. You could probably combine any shades in the palette and you’d look amazing.
After looking at photos and reviews of the other palette, I reckon you wouldn’t need both Subculture and this as they have 4 or 5 nearly identical shades, but I’m glad I have this in my collection. It’s much different to my other ones which are usually pinky/orangey/nudey warm tones (with the exception of the Jaclyn Hill Palette), and it’s just so creative! I wore Lucid in my inner corner yesterday and found it was really gold instead of silver as it first looks.
Unity, Sphinx, Lure and Sphere needs a bit of building up to get the same colour as in the palette, i’ll be honest, but since Lure is probably most often used as a transition colour I wouldn’t necessarily say this was a downfall. It wastes less to build up rather than to add loads and take away. I also like the muted colour of sphere, not sure I would wear an actual neon yellow on my eyes. I found that the bottom row of shades were more pigmented than the top, not sure if it’s because the bottom row has more shimmery shades. Ultimately, I can’t wait to keep playing with the Prism palette, the possibilities are endless!
