“I think I was a magpie in a former life”
‘Ombre Blackstar’, what a cool name for a cream eyeshadow.
I have been wanting to try By Terry for months, since Lydia Millen is such a huge advocator for the cruelty-free brand. Unfortunately, most of the products are slightly out of the price range of a student, so £29 for an eyeshadow seemed pretty reasonable, especially with the LYDIABRIDAL discount code. After a slight mix-up at Beauty Bay where they initially sent me the wrong shade, I have ended up with 2! I have Frozen Quartz and Bubble glow.
I used Frozen Quartz in my Wintery Eye Makeup post, and it is definitely my more favourite of the two. They glide on, smooth as butter, and the pigment is amazing. They’re like metallic highlighters! After I took these swatches I had a shower and even after scrubbing my hand with a loofah, (?) they didn’t fully come off. Bubble Glow is on the left, and Frozen Quartz is on the right.
The packaging is totally gorgeous, even the boxes, so luxe and glam. I know this seems super shallow and what is inside the packaging counts (as in life, my friends), but I sometimes think I was a magpie in a former life as I have a ‘shiny thing’ radar. I use them wither over a subtle shadow to create a halo or cut crease eye, or put them all over the lid and blend for a wash of sparkle. They are really easy to blend, don’t crease easily, and the colour still shows up really vividly over another colour. The angle of the cream pencil also makes it easy to put under your eyes.
While I don’t use Bubble Glow as much as Frozen Quartz, I have found another use for it – Lips!
Put it all over bare lips for a cute, frosted look or in the centre of another lipstick to make your lips look plumper and glowy. Now I think about it, they would also probably make good highlighters!
I’m still a bit put-out by the price, but the fact that I accidentally got two for the price of one makes it easier for me, and the amount I love and use them also makes it more bearable. I will definitely be investing in more shades in the future, and not just because they look so beautiful stored beside each other in my makeup collection…
Overall Rating? 8/10, I’ll take off 2 for the price of them.
